DACKS Successfully Names the First World’s Largest 24188 TEU Container ShipDACKS Successfully Names the First World’s Largest 24188 TEU Container Ship On May 30th, DACKS successfully named the first ship in the world’s largest class of container ships, the 24188 TEU ultra-large container ship DE093, built for Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. Ms. Fang Xueyu, Senior Vice President of Qingdao Hisense International Marketing Co., Ltd., along with Mr. Feng Guohua, director of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. And the Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Container, and Mr. Yu Jianzhong, the Chief Accountant of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, participated in the naming ceremony. Ms. Fang Xueyu named the ship and launched the champagne, officially naming DE093 as “OOCL PIRAEUS”. “OOCL PIRAEUS” is the first of six 24188 TEU container ships built by DACKS for OOCL. With a total length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, and a depth of 33.2 meters, its deck area is nearly the size of four standard football fields. When fully loaded, it can reach the height of a 22-story residential building, making it one of the largest container ships in the world by scale and container capacity, a true “giant” and “cargo king” of the seas. Classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), it will serve the Asia-Europe route upon operation, enhancing the capability of COSCO SHIPPING’s dual-brand container fleet to “carry the world”.
The “OOCL PIRAEUS” incorporates the latest technological achievements and intelligent solutions. It optimizes low-resistance hull shapes, employs the newly developed energy-efficient bulbous bow, pre-swirl stators, and other energy-saving devices and methods, setting a world-leading standard in fuel consumption per container. Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) exceeds the benchmark by more than 50%, meeting EEDI Phase 3 requirements ahead of schedule. Featuring the world’s largest capacity high-efficiency permanent magnet shaft generator system, it offers both energy-saving and boosting functions, enhancing the ship’s operability and maximizing operational benefits. It also introduces China’s first full lifecycle intelligent safety management system for ship structures, forecasting structural damage in advance, and the world’s first double-outside-lashing scheme for 45-foot containers, meeting CSS Code requirements and significantly improving the ship’s operational economy. With its green energy, large loading capacity, and high degree of intelligence, the ship sets world-class standards in fuel consumption, container capacity, speed of operation, and safety. During the design and construction of “OOCL PIRAEUS,” DACKS implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, adhering to innovation-driven development, advancing scientific and technological research, cultivating high-tech talents, overcoming key technological and construction difficulties, and overcoming the challenges brought by the pandemic and cold weather. Innovations such as 5G dual-machine lifting, digital simulation container testing, and automated adjustment of the main shaft system were employed. The high-quality, efficient delivery of “OOCL PIRAEUS” received full recognition from the stationed shipowner. The ship’s successful delivery sets a high standard for the series, laying a solid foundation for the long-term cooperation between OOCL and DACKS. The delivery of this 24188 TEU container ship is a key step for the transformation and upgrading of the shipbuilding industry in Liaoning Province, representing the pinnacle of shipbuilding technology in China and the world. It successfully fills the gap in the industry for 24000 TEU ultra-large container ships in Liaoning Province and the Bohai Bay area. The ultra-large 24000 TEU container ship also serves as a benchmark for measuring the manufacturing level and capability of shipyards, demanding high standards in design, construction, and organizational management. The successful delivery of “OOCL PIRAEUS” is another significant strategic achievement for DACKS in the field of the world’s largest new container ships after the 20000 TEU class, marking an important milestone in the company’s product upgrading and transformational development. Leveraging the high-quality delivery of this ship, DACKS will continue to adhere “World-class ships by world-class shipyard”, accelerating the construction of a world-class enterprise, promoting “digital, intelligent, green” high-quality development, and striving to achieve the vision of “to be the best carrier provider of global marine logistics”! | |||||
